I think that is a good idea to try Zorin 9 to get an idea on how Linux system works. Keep in mind that many applications you used to run on windows will not run on linux, but there are alternatives. I'm on Zorin 9 for more than 1 year and i'm happy with it...

just mess around with a couple of distros from distrowatch.com to see witch you like (debian/ubuntu based are generally considered to be the simplest and gentoo is not something to start with :D ) ...

try different Desktop Environments and then get a minimal or net install and build apon it to get the system you want ... jumping straight into something like Gentoo or LinuxFromScratch will most likely put you off linux :D
