Some of the best Wordpress plugins

Post by monomo »

Post links and brief descriptions of use cases below! I'll include the best ones here.

Wordpress SEO by Joost - Let's you majorly optimize SEO in all of your posts and pages, as you create them.

WordTwit - Automatically tweets your posts as they're published. The pro version also lets you schedule and repeat those tweets.

Wordbooker — Automatically update your Facebook profile or page's status when you write a new post. If you use the Featured Post function, it will even grab the image and use it as the thumbnail next to the post blurb in your timeline. (thanks redwall_hp).

The Events Calendar - IMHO the only events plugin worth your time. Great widgets, full page month grid views, and solid documentation. A bit of a pain to implement, but worth it.

MyFTP - A convenient way to access your FTP backend without leaving the wp-admin dashboard.

Announcer - A simple way to quickly list an banner-style announcement across all pages and posts on your site. Very good for real-time messages for your users.

WP Greetbox - Automatically detects where users are coming from (say, Twitter) and displays a custom welcome message for them.

WP Touch - Not as customizable as the Pro version, but still a really great way to optimize your 'desktop' site for mobile users.

Redirection - Redirection is a WordPress plugin to manage 301 redirections and keep track of 404 errors without requiring knowledge of Apache .htaccess files. (thanks HolisticWebMedia)

Posts 2 Posts - Allows you to create many-to-many relationships between posts of all types. (thanks milomilo)

Query Multiple Taxonomies - provides a drill-down widget for refining search via multiple taxonomies. (thanks milimilo)

Query Posts - Great for pulling blocks of posts in widgets and within pages or posts in an easy way. (thanks 0drew0).

WP Lifestream - for grouping social media / rss updates into a single feed. (thanks 0drew0).

Bad Behavior - for SPAM control. (thanks 0drew0).

YOURLS - for link shortening out-of-the-box and WP to Twitter. (thanks 0drew0).

Convert Post Types - for moving posts between vanilla and custom post types. (thanks 0drew0).

List Subpages - for listing a page's subpages using a shortcode. (thanks 0drew0).

Technical Support - for providing a bridge between clients and developers from the WP Dashboard. (thanks 0drew0).

WP Snippets - has quite the collection of snippets for accomplishing small tasks instead of using plugins. Useful for WP installs. (thanks 0drew0).

WP125 — A simple 125x125 ad management plugin. (thanks redwall_hp).

WP Super Cache — A couple of good caching plugins. Essential for larger sites. (thanks redwall_hp).

Amazon Auto Affiliate Linker — Any Amazon links in your posts automatically get your affiliate ID tacked on. (thanks redwall_hp).

JSON API — Query posts as JSON! Great for building mobile apps or displaying your recent posts on another domain. (thanks redwall_hp).

Head Cleaner - it cleans up the tags in your head element and reorganizes them to make your site speedy. (thanks thened).

Search and Replace A simple search for find strings in your database and replace the string. (thanks HolisticWebMedia)
